Magic like this just doesn’t happen every day – dream client, dream team, and an MCM gem in all its glory…this is our jam. Staying true to the essence of this custom 1952 Ranch style home by Master Architect Richard Wheeler while simultaneously bringing it into the 21st century required a seamless and trusted chemistry between the home owners, design team, craftsmen, specialists, and contractors. There is not a corner that wasn’t touched and thought through – details big and small were meticulously studied, preserved, repurposed, and brought back to life. Notable features such as the strong horizontality of the home, built-in exterior planters, architectural screen elements, and the through connection between interior and exterior spaces were honored with integrity, and where appropriate, reimagined into more current, functional, and open flow planning. The success of such an endeavor was a blur of responsibilities…all hands on deck to where you can’t tell the distinction between the owners’ touches and the variety of professional disciplines involved. Between the historic preservation work, floor plan updates, technology upgrades, custom furniture and finishes, refurbishing of original pieces, and scoring of vintage finds, this home is now historically registered and successfully qualified for the Mills Act, which was an undertaking all unto itself.

This contemporary, multi-level home sits high above Mission Valley and the San Diego River. It boasts expansive ocean views from the main deck and a 360-degree panorama from the roof deck. Private, cul de sac street, the front courtyard creates a compound effect adding a feeling of “reveal” to the dramatic main entrance.
Multiple previous property owners were unable to figure out this new construction build which depended on significant grading and planning work to realize PQ Design’s original vision. JWC and the engineering team devised a solution using two foundation systems to nestle the house against the hillside. The owners worked directly with JWC, Ocean Drive Design, and a series of custom craftspeople to develop a bespoke design which is both captivating and functional.

Steps away from North Park’s Farmers Market and a block from 30th, this 1913 home was fully transformed for Sid Marcos—a filmmaker, disability advocate, and design enthusiast.
The modern residence blends utility with grace, featuring Alaskan yellow cedar siding and a sharp standing seam metal roof. Its main axis is vaulted and connects indoors and outdoors, opening onto a 270° wraparound deck. Every aspect was thoughtfully designed to create a flexible, intuitive lifestyle, starting with Sid’s needs as a wheelchair user. Innovations include a driveway to the side door and smooth Senso flooring for tranquil beauty.
About 1,044 square feet was reimagined, plus a 100 SF addition to increase comfort. Shoji-inspired polycarbonate panels, skylights, and expansive Western Window Systems doors flood the space with light. Native, drought-tolerant plants attract butterflies and birds, embodying a new approach to design-forward, indoor-outdoor living.

Located in the heart of Kensington Heights, this 1927 Historic Spanish has been completely reimagined while preserving its timeless character.
Taken down to the studs, the home has been thoughtfully rebuilt with modern systems and finishes, yet still showcases authentic details including hammered wood beams with hand-painted stencil designs, graceful archways, and the architectural charm that defines the era. Light-filled living spaces flow seamlessly, offering both comfort and elegance for everyday living and entertaining. The kitchen and baths have been updated with high-quality materials that complement the home’s historic integrity. Every detail has been carefully considered to create a perfect balance between old-world craftsmanship and today’s lifestyle. Outside, the private backyard provides a peaceful retreat with western views that capture San Diego’s golden sunsets.
